Having left Gucci, Tom Ford starting building his now Empire with the launch of his first fragrance, Black Orchid. He understood it’s power to make an impact. I think he might just love Perfume (almost) as much as me. He sums it up perfectly;
‘… like music or food, scent is a very direct sensory stimulant. It provokes the senses, it brings up emotion and memory and feeling. It doesn’t mean I have to buy an expensive perfume; it just means I would have to smell flowers, smell the landscape. So fragrance is more than an accessory, absolutely, to me. In many ways, it is the main event – certainly one of my biggest passions as a creative person…’
I am perfume obsessed. I can tell you every phase I’ve been through, from Davidoff Cool Waters (!) to GUCCI RUSH (also lol) in the early years to today. Scents evoke memories so powerfully for me, it’s like time travel as they export you to moments, good and bad. Over the past 6 years, I have been really collecting scents and learning about fragrance houses, expanding my collections and finding signature scents for every occasion. I believe in the art of perfume, it can lift your mood, make you feel confident for a job interview or sexy for a date. Perfume is a luxury that can make any old outfit feel incredible. In no particular order, here I share some of my favourite fragrances…
Created using only the highest quality materials available, Byredo is the fruition of Ben Gorham’s vision to create a new approach to luxury. Admittedly, I’m branding and packaging obsessed and originally I bought into the brand for that experience but the perfumes are original and I’ve become a convert for the scents, too. As most do, I started with the popular Gypsy Water before graduating to Mojave Ghost and more recently, Slow Dance.
The home of the World’s most famous and iconic perfume, Chanel No. 5. The stunningly classic perfume was launched in 1921 and to this day, one bottle is sold every 30 seconds. An iteration of this scent belongs on every woman’s vanity.

I had the pleasure of recently meeting Christine Nagel, the in-house nose for Hermès, who took over from the house’s first resident perfumer, Jean-Claude Ellena in 2016. She has since created beautiful scents including Un Jardin Sur La Lagune, inspired by the ‘Garden of Eden’ in Venice.
The quintessentially British brand prides itself on it’s immaculately presented and understated, bespoke fragrances for him, for her and for home. Jo Malone is the brand I turn to for gift giving and for combining scents to create something original to reflect my mood.
