Like any start up, or creative process, there have been many dips and turns on the road to arriving here and launching Espie Roche. Those closest to me know that this dream has presented countless hurdles and challenges, moments in which I really wasn’t sure if this would come to fruition or that it was feasible or even realistic.
Ideas are easy, implementation is hard. Decision making and admin can be gruelling. Working with Italians… well, sì, that is a most interesting and timely process. My business partners, Airlie and Alexandra and I have learnt so much it’s astounding… about business, about craftsmanship and contracts and construction and about each other. Mostly, we’ve learnt that where there is a vision and a passion and a total unwillingness to hear no and let go, there might just be a business and a future.
Thankfully we were naive enough in the very beginning to know nothing about this industry and working in Italy and innocent enough to take a chance. Flying to Milan and Pisa and Florence, attending trade shows and quite literally banging on factory doors until someone would speak to us, even if it was in broken English-Italian. We worked tirelessly over years to learn as much as we could, driving around Italy (at times literally in a Fiat – how cliche is that) building relationships.
I am so proud of what we have now launched into the market. We can confidently say we have worked with the best and we have developed what we set out to create: a timeless collection made with the highest quality components by the best artisan’s in Italy. We hope you like the product as much as we enjoyed creating it.
Benvenuto Espie Roche, it is good to have you here. At last.
