Reflecting on the year that was 2017, I wanted to jump back to one of the highlights… Port Douglas. I had the honour of serving as a bridesmaid for a most incredible school friend. She is the girl who lights up the room. She is hilarious, intelligent, hard working, dedicated and loyal. We share a passion for travel and have met in New York, Lake Como and Capri. I take great pride in often playing third wheel to their little dynamic, wherever we are in the world.
Her now husband has family in Port Douglas and the location has deep meaning to them both: one of the keys to a successful wedding, a venue that holds meaning. I used to travel to Port Douglas as a child with my family and again in my early 20s with friends but hadn’t been for years. Arriving into town as we drove down the winding coastal road, I felt transported to Hawaii. I had forgotten the natural beauty of Queensland and the diversity of Australia. I treasure our climate and landscape so much more now I live in London.
Over the extended weekend, I stayed with the Mr & Mrs Smith appointed QT. Centrally located, the QT has a typically Australian tin shed spa, pools and rainforests. My room was a spacious, converted apartment and I loved every minute. Switching off is rare for me but I managed to avoid my laptop for days… the sign of a relaxing break.
Don’t forget Port Douglas like I did… yet another paradise on our doorstep. xHermione.
Special thanks to Mr & Mrs Smith for hosting me at the QT Port Douglas.
