I’m constantly asked why I live in London. It’s not just my Australian family and friends that constantly question the choice, but the Brits that I meet, too. More often than not, they’re all asking the same question, “How could you possibly choose dismal London over sunny Sydney?!”
Well, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. There is this funny thing about London, it creeps into your pores. The more time I spend here, the more I live and breathe this city, the more I can’t bear the thought of leaving. It is exciting, daunting and overwhelming, in the best possible way. If we’re being specific, Notting Hill is home. It’s a little community of people, familiar faces, flower stoops and coffee stores. I choose Notting Hill because it has a healthy and clean environment.
The hardest thing about London is naturally incorporating health into your life. It’s not like Sydney where you pop off to do the Bondi to Bronte or for a swim with a friend, inadvertently exercising. In London, you have to make the conscious effort. The Fitbit Alta has been helping me do just that. Not only is it ridiculously chic (I am constantly being asked about it), but it buzzes to remind me when to get active, counts my steps and monitors my sleep. The app and website track and monitor your activity and provide inspiration to reach new goals. I have the pink and the black bands which are easily interchangeable, allowing me to take my Alta from the gym to coffee. It’s surprising how many steps you take just moving around, from meeting to meeting, and buying groceries for home.
Come visit me in Notting Hill, you’ll find me wandering around Portobello Road. xHermione.
