It was whilst studying for her yoga teaching course that Pauline Hansen saw a gap in the market for chic, sustainable activewear. This led her on a quest to build a luxury brand that today is PAMA London. She lives the yogi lifestyle and philosophy daily and it is my pleasure bringing her label to market. Here, we talk sustainability and what inspires her…
1. Explain PAMA London, in your words.
PAMA London is a sustainable, eco-conscious , fashion forward, high performance active wear brand made fit to form. I created this brand to produce a timeless, eco-friendly fashionable active / Yoga Lifestyle Brand. Everything is fit to form to give women as much support as needed to make them feel great inside and out of the studio.
It’s created from the Yoga inspired lifestyle where everything is about mindfulness.
Not only what you eat but also the fabrics you put on our skin are essential to our and our planets wellbeing. Love our Planet and be conscious of how you do things.
2. Who inspires you?
My Dad inspires me in life because he is self made hard-working, always feed me bright energy, and he still does Trans Atlantic sailing races works out does yoga and has a six pack at the age of 70. My mother also inspires me because I have four sisters and a brother so she has 6 to take care of which impressed me everyday. She is such a strong and beautiful woman inside out!
Fashion is very unique and personal so I believe that everyone creates their own fashion. It’s like personality! Reformation, their way of being conscious in fashion inspires me. They were one of the first company to really incorporate up/down cycling old fabrics into modern fashion. Also new fabrics inspires me to brainstorm new products.
3. Biggest career lesson to date?
It‘s good to just do it have your own vision and believe in it ! It’s also important to have a good team because best outcome comes from teamwork.
Being able to constantly motivate yourself because it is a long battle and you just have to keep going because I believe in this.
4. How did this journey start for you?
Whilst doing my yoga teacher training I saw the gap in the market. That’s why our first collection is Chakra collection because when I started the training I learned a lot about the Chakra energies and how the colours help you by wearing them. Also I‘m truly fascinated with natural / organic / Biodegradable eco friendly fabrics! There are so many amazing new fabrics in the market which are good for sensitive skins and won’t hurt our planet!
5. Advice to someone wanting to start their own business?
When starting your own business you need to have a clear vision of what you want your brand to stand for. It’s important to have a concept and stick to it. Most important it’s important that you believe in it and that it inspires you everyday so you keep on pushing it. In conclusion just don’t be afraid just do it and along the way you learn so much from it!
6. Quote you live by?
“Too blessed to be stressed” – I am so lucky living in the western world and simply the more you stress more it goes wrong. Always be grateful for your life and think positive! #good vibes only to manifest your dreams!
7. Sacrifices you’ve made to get where you are?
I have made a lot of research on production / technology and factories in the clothing industry. I started off producing the clothes in LA which idea I loved because of the healthy lifestyle/ Yoga etc. After the first production I moved everything to Portugal as the eco consciousness and production technology / cleanness is much higher there then in LA.
Portugal is an amazing country for the clothing manufacturing they are very experienced and conscious of high quality controls. Also our new fabrics are being produced there so for logistics it’s all much more sustainable and eco conscious.
8. Best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Never give up! Especially in the beginning it’s difficult but really follow your dreams with faith and stay strong!
