As we start the New Year and set resolutions, many of us are reflecting on how to balance in this modern world. Most will be considering a detox of some sort, perhaps a few months off alcohol or a new gym membership?
If you are truly looking to reboot your mind and body, with the ultimate modern day indulgence – no phone reception – then this is your answer.
A few years ago I was looking for exactly that. I set off to Bali alone, landing and immediately venturing into the night on a long car ride, heading for the North Eastern point of the Island.
I awoke the next morning with the sunrise, listening to the water break upon the rocky shore, and watching hundreds of colourful fishing boats set off at sunrise from my villa bedroom.
If you are looking for a break from reality, having over-indulged over the holiday period.
The Golden Rock detox programme consists of meditation, yoga, exercise and dietary supplements. With only four villas, the retreat feels private and personal – I was one of three guests! You can choose from a four, seven or ten day program, whatever is most suited to your life and expectations.
The surrounds are stunning and you are given down time daily, which is much needed as the programme can be quite physically gruelling. I was lucky enough to coax a local fisherman into taking me for a boat trip around the local area which was a feast for the eyes and an absolute highlight.
My only suggestion would be to take a few additional days post-detox to acclimatise at one of Bali’s luxury resorts or hotels, before returning to your real world.
The Balinese people are so charming, friendly and affectionate, it’s the perfect destination for utter relaxation and recuperation. xH
