My recent trip to Barcelona was regretfully fleeting. A three day weekend with friends meant far too much paella and quite a few too many jugs of sangria. The W hotel overwhelmingly owns the shoreline, and for good reason too. The hotel is true to the W standard – modern and fun, buzzing with cool people and incredible restaurants. Beach chairs are 25 euros a day but worth it for the wait service, fresh towels and a less crowded and pristine place to swim.
Barcelona is a European city where the modern day meets a strong historical past. You could live there, you could spend weeks there and a quick weekend works too. If you’re in Spain, make sure to take a weekend.. and if you’d like to know anything else, do let me know 🙂 x
You can’t go past Gaudi’s incredible architecture, I was excited to see it again and to experience it with friends. The constant building works that go on at La Sagrada Familia are monumental, overwhelming and historically important to see for yourself.
Park Güell by Gaudi – Originally conceived as an estate to house the wealthy, difficult sales terms meant that only 2 of the 60 intended homes were ever built. Güell himself lived in one and used the land as a large private gardens for many years. It’s a famous attraction for good reason and well worth the climb, for the views and to surround yourself with immense history and sublime, unique architectural beauty.
La Boqueria Market on the Ramblas – Barcelona’s best known market, worth a visit just for the experience and photos! I always buy a fresh juice and fruit salad.`
The beach… take a dip in the Mediterranean!
At the W Barcelona waterfront you will find a row of incredible restaurants. For incredible food, cocktails and service at the forefront of the W at Restaurant Gallito. Also, try Salt Barcelona for drinks between dips.
Every restaurant recommendation seemed to lead us back to the same block, back to the beach front at Salamandra. Balacca is an absolute must-go – you can see more Barcelona recommendation’s from Sophie Carr here. Tapas at its finest and incredible staff to match. The decor is clean and modern. Try the Bambas, its basically a shepard’s pie, deep fried.
