I visited New York City last month and jumped from hotel to hotel, sneakily reviewing hotels without their knowledge. I have to admit that when I am given hotel stays, I often feel obliged to be overly generous with my words and I feel weird about being special treatment.. it makes it harder to be impartial. By sneaking in under the radar, I was able to experience the real offering, service and stay. Outcome: Surprisingly refreshing. Here are the four hotels I visited and the real experience I felt, from best to worst. Given I am visiting NYC more and more often, I’d love to hear from you. Where do you stay? xHermione.
I absolutely loved the Ludlow. I usually stay at The Bowery, The Standard (High Line) or The Soho Grand and I have to say The Ludlow is one of my new favourite hotels. I am a sucker for branding and details and this hotel absolutely nails every moment. The only let down was the restaurant but given the position, you won’t be obliged to eat there so we can over look that! Run, don’t walk, to make a booking.
Perfect for those who prefer to be uptown (less perfect for those like me who love being downtown), The Mark is an extraordinarily beautiful, refined, chic hotel where no stone has been left unturned. This is the hotel for those looking for absolute luxury and comfort, fluffy slippers and deep bath tubs.
I would never usually stay in a Trump Hotel (association, I guess) which made the service, experience and quality ever more surprising. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, primarily due to the location. I can now, shockingly, highly recommend Trump Soho, particularly to AMEX users (complimentary upgrade etc). DO IT!
Highly recommended by many, I found The Ace to be a major disappointment. Yes, it has a cool lobby, draws a cool crowd and a cool DJ was playing when I arrived home from dinner BUT the rooms were shabby (not shabby chic, just run down and worn out). It felt like a college dorm. I’m usually down for ‘cool’, ‘weird’, ‘unusual’.. this just felt a bit ewwww. I wouldn’t go back, Sorry! (NB: that felt so good weird being critical.. more to come)
